If you are a fan of live music and paranormal activity, you might want to check out the House of Blues in Chicago. This popular venue, located at 329 N. Dearborn St., is not only a place to enjoy some great tunes, but also a potential hotspot for ghostly encounters.
According to some reports, the House of Blues is haunted by the spirit of a little girl who died of an illness. Witnesses have seen and heard her, and in one instance she was found playing with a living boy’s toys. She supposedly asked the boy to play with her, but he screamed, causing her to vanish.
The House of Blues is not the only haunted place in Chicago. The city has a rich and bloody history, full of crime, violence and tragedy. Some of the most notorious events that have left their mark on the city include:
- The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre: On February 14, 1929, seven members of Bugs Moran’s gang were gunned down by Al Capone’s men in a garage at 2122 N. Clark St. The site is now a grassy lot, but some say that they can still hear the echoes of gunfire and screams.
- The Biograph Theater: On July 22, 1934, John Dillinger, America’s most wanted bank robber, was shot and killed by FBI agents outside this theater at 2433 N. Lincoln Ave. The alley where he fell is said to be haunted by his ghost, as well as those of his victims.
- The Hull House: This historic building at 800 S. Halsted St. was once a settlement house founded by Jane Addams, a social reformer and Nobel Peace Prize winner. It was also the site of a legend about a devil baby, a deformed child that was supposedly born to a Catholic woman who cursed God. The baby was said to have horns, hooves and red eyes, and could speak in multiple languages. Jane Addams denied the existence of the devil baby, but many people claimed to have seen it or heard it crying in the attic.
These are just some of the many haunted places in Chicago that you can explore if you are brave enough. But if you are looking for a combination of music and mystery, you might want to visit the House of Blues and see if you can catch a glimpse of the little girl or any other spirits that may be there.
