Introduction to Tarot Card Reading

There are times when people feel a need to understand the situations they are going through, and even try gain knowledge of what the future holds.

In many cases, people turn to astrology, but in other cases people use tarot cards.

While they both help one connect to the universe, tarot card reading and astrology still have their differences. Tarot cards are considered to be more challenging because they have to be memorized. They are also considered to be more fun, and can be used in a social setting.

The Basics of Tarot Card Reading

Introduction to Tarot Card Reading

The first thing you have to know is that there are a total of 78 cards in every deck and they are divided into 2 groups. One group is called major arcana and it contains 22 cards, whereas the second group contains the remaining 56 cards and is called the minor arcana.

The former is further divided into 4 categories namely cups, wands, pentacles and swords. The major arcana is also known to deal with important milestones you make, and the minor arcana deals with daily life occurrences.

Cups usually signify feelings and emotions as well as celebrations and relationships while wands signify creativity, inspirations together with goals and tasks. Swords show things like truth and reasoning whereas pentacles signify the career aspect of your life and the materials you have.

The minor group consists of Knight, Page, King, and Queen and they usually signify the people close to you. They mirror people’s personalities. The group also has other cards ranging from ace to 10, and they signify progress. For instance, the ace card may pop up when you’re about to begin a new phase while 10 may appear whenever things aren’t going so well and you’re feeling overwhelmed.

How Tarot Card Reading Works

Most people light candles and create an ambience. But do what works for you to help you relax.

The next step involves shuffling the cards. Since they are bigger, shuffling them may be more difficult so you have to do so at a pace you’re comfortable with. While shuffling, clear your mind and only think about the question you want answers to. If you’re reading for a friend, make sure you’re only thinking about their explanations.

Separate the deck into three sections and choose one. You can also have your friend separate them instead. There are different layouts for different types of questions. The layouts include:

Daily draw which involves asking a question then picking any card from the deck to interpret that question. You don’t have to separate the deck before drawing a card.

The three-card layout which is used to predict the turn out of current situations. One part of the layout represents the future while the other two represent the past and the present.

The five-card layout which is considered to be more detailed. It represents your current status, your current goals, potential problems, the best outcome, and your gender strength.

Once you have chosen a layout you can start interpreting. Some tips you can use during the tarot card reading include:

Not blaming someone else: You should not allow your mind to wander off to someone else even if you think they are the reason you’re having problems. Instead, focus on yourself the whole time.

Don’t be biased: It’s easy to go into a reading with a formed notion but that won’t help you get a clear reading. Try to remain neutral.

Positivity: Don’t focus on why you’re having problems but rather how you can solve those problems.

Keep an open mind: Don’t just focus on the small details. This is the only way to see the bigger picture and predict the cards correctly. To ensure this happens, listen to the question before drawing then do the same after drawing.

If you’re reading for a friend it’s advisable to ask them to try and interpret the images themselves. This allows them to have a personal reflection which may not happen if you’re the only one interpreting. Reading tarot cards may be more challenging at first but with practice, it will get easier.

Use them frequently so you get the hang of it. This is just a brief introduction to Tarot Card reading, but it’s an interesting concept if you want to dig deeper!
